At 9PM, CBS held strong with Medium, reaching 8.3 million viewers; and Fox had a bit of good news as Dollhouse reached 2.2 million people, up 11% from the week before.
Genre TV Ratings, September 28-October 2, 2009
On Monday September 28th, the news was, again, not so great for NBC’s Heroes, which pulled in 5.8 million viewers, which was an 11% drop from its premiere the week before. Over on CBS, The Big Bang Theory hit a new series high with over 13 million viewers. On Wednesday September 30th, Eastwick dropped to second place, pulling in 6.6 million viewers and losing 23% of its audience from the premiere. The following night, ABC scored with FlashForward, which had an audience of 10.8 million (an 8% drop from the premiere — not bad at all); Vampire Diaries scored nicely for the CW with 3.5 million viewers, and Supernatural reached its usual audience with 2.6 million.
The week wrapped up with a mixed bag ratings wise. The winner was CBS with the combination of Ghost Whisperer (7.6 million) and Medium (7.7 million). A rerun of FlashForward on ABC pulled in 3.7 million. Things weren’t so good over at Fox or the CW. Dollhouse had an audience of 2 million (a 20% drop from the season premiere) and Smallville had 2.3 million, losing 18% of the audience from the week before.
Over at SyFy, the big news was that the two-hour premiere of Stargate Universe drew 2.4 million viewers, beating both Dollhouse and Smallville.

Two genre offerings. At 8PM, NBC’s Heroes drew 5.8 million viewers, which, unfortunately, was an 11% decrease from the season premiere a week earlier. The show came in fourth in its timeslot. Over on CBS at 9:30, The Big Bang Theory continues to prove itself to be something of a mini-ratings juggernaut, reaching 13 million people, and rising 9% from its season premiere. It came in second in its timeslot.
Genre TV Ratings: September 21-25, 2009
The first week of the TV season is behind us, and the ratings for the primetime networks are in, with some genre shows faring better than others. What follows is SciFi TV Zone’s night-by-night breakdown of those shows.
Monday: On CBS, the big winner was The Big Bang Theory (it may not be strictly genre, but we have altered reality so that a series so driven by the genre could be included). In its new timeslot is drew an audience of 12.96 million people, its largest yet. On NBC, the news wasn’t as good with the fourth season premiere of Heroes drawing just 6.1 million people, a drop of over 40% from its third season premiere.
Wednesday:The only genre offering was ABC’s Eastwick, based on John Updike’s novel, The Witches of Eastwick. With an audience of 8.5 million, it was viewed as a middle-of-the-road type premiere in terms of ratings.

The Vampire Diaries
Thursday: The big news at 8PM was the premiere of FlashForward (created by Threshold’s David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga), which pulled in 12.4 million viewers. Holding up nicely in the same hour was the third week of the CW’s Vampire Diaries, which garnered 3.8 million viewers. At 9PM, Fox took the genre honors with Fringe, though it’s 5.39 million viewers was down 27% from the season premiere (7.82 million viewers). The CW’s Supernatural, with 2.6 million viewers, remains fairly consistent and a strong hour of programming for the struggling network.
Friday: As usual, CBS’ Ghost Whisperer won the 8PM hour with 8.6 million viewers, while ABC’s rerun of the FlashForward premiere pulled in 4.5 million viewers and the CW season premiere of Smallville had 2.5 million, down considerably from last year but higher than anything the network has played in that slot for over a year. At 9PM, CBS’ Medium (which had been at NBC up until this year) won the hour with 8.8 million viewers, while Fox’s returning Dollhouse took a hit, garnering only 2.6 million viewers.
