Horrible interviewer.. more interested in talking than interviewing. Horrible sound quality.
COOL INTERVIEW….So far, so good. Love Stargate(s) and Shanks, I’m glad he’s still around guest starring in other TV shows I like. Love the fact that this interview was quite thorough with description and opinion rather than the short answer and written ones we normally have to read elsewhere. I personally like the audio interviews much better. Enjoyed his comments in Part 1 about the whole “costumes and dress up”. He made a good point about the X-Men movie as well. Now that was full of costume characters and it still did great at the box office. Smallville may be more of a modern day adaptation, but it certainly pulls off how it portrays other costume characters across the screen (ie Green Arrow and Wonder Twins, etc) without it looking too corny. Then again, as a fan, it wouldn’t bother one so much, I think. You’d have to look past all the dressing up stuff and focus on how good of a show it is. Same goes for a Sci-Fi show, doesn’t it? Some characters “dress up” in costume. What about “period pieces”, like Jane Austen or Queen Elizabeth? Yes, they were real fashions way back when, but in this day and age, they’re still considered “costumes”, right? I love all things fantasy (almost all), so that wouldn’t bother me as long as it is entertaining to watch. And aren’t the cool super powers in action enough to watch? You wouldn’t really care what they’re dressed up as (well, maybe a little bit). I’m hopeful that Smallville will do a great job this Friday, Feb 5th with “Absolute Justice”. Anyway, glad Shanks was able to keep an open mind and agree to play the Hawkman part. Can’t wait to hear the rest. Thanks RetroEd for sharing! Peace and Be Well!
Debra: Sorry you didn’t like the interview style or the sound quality. As to the former, I always try and keep my interviews conversational rather than jumping from one question to the next in rapid succession. As to the sound, unfortunately something odd went on with the phone that day.
stacymac: Thanks for the compliment. What I’m trying to do with this site is make it stand out from others simply because of the quantity of what’s out there. In attempting to offer something unique, I decided to go as often as I can with audio interviews as a means of bringing the listener into the conversation.
With the costumes, like Michael said, once you see it in the proper lighting and edited properly, it changes virtually everything. Years ago I was on the set of the Star Trek movie First Contact, and I couldn’t believe how ridiculously phony the Borgified portions of the Enterprise looked in person. But then I saw the final film and was blown away by the look, so you just never know.
I really liked the interview and unlike other websites or people you acutally let him talk with out cutting him off every 2 seconds with another question. Thank you and am looking forward to part 3
Awesome interview! I just love what Michael said about Tom directing! I love that he went in so many details. He sounds genuinely impressed. And oh, for the record, Tom has directed 4 episodes before that one: Fragile, Hydro, Apocalypse and Injustice.
