The Weekly Round-Up for Nov. 2 to 6
Here are the sci-fi based entertainment news items for this week (November 2 to 6):
NEWS
Contrary to what the LA Times reported last week about Elizabeth Mitchell NOT returning to Lost for its final season, it would seem she will be back on the island in the middle of November to film, staying there until January when she goes back to Vancouver to film more episodes of V.
It has also been confirmed Rebecca Mader will reprise her role in at least one episode of Lost in early 2010.
Despite reports that Maggie Grace is coming back to Lost for its final season she is not yet signed on to return.
NEW DEVELOPMENT SLATE
Ghost Whisperer executive producers Ian Sander and Kim Moses have three projects in development at ABC including the following:
• Ghost World, about a male ghost who solves crimes with a female police detective with the hopes of solving his own death, from writer Daniel Taplitz.
ABC, Mark Gordon, and Roland Emmerich are developing a series-based sequel to their upcoming disaster film 2012. The plan is to have the story set in 2013 and deal with the aftermath of the disaster.
BOX OFFICE NEWS
Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the comic book adaptation Red based on the series by Warren Ellis. Bruce Willis plays retired CIA agent Paul Moses who must fight a hit team sent by the new leader of the CIA (Morgan Freeman) who wants to clean up loose ends including eliminating old spies who know too much.
MADE FOR TV MOVIE NEWS
Jennifer Beals (The L Word and b) will star in The Night Before the Night Before Christmas, a Hallmark Channel Original Movie about a family that’s too busy to get ready for the holidays until Santa Claus mistakenly leaves the North Pole a day early and crash lands on their roof, and it’s suddenly up to the family to help save Christmas.
AS HEARD ON/MUSIC NEWS
Songs featured in the most recent episode of Eastwick included “Wild Thing” by The Troggs; “Washingon Post” and “Hurry Up Clancy” both by Chris Carlisle; “Mediation DNA” by Mediation One and the songs “I Shall Be Released” as sung by actor Matt Dallas and “Shortnin Bread” as sung by actress Cybil Sheperd.
The Vampire Diaries featured the following songs: “All the World” by Fauxilage; “Escape Me” by Tiesto featuring CC Sheffield and “Feel It In My Bones” by Tiesto featuring Tegan & Sara; “Happy Birthday” by The Birthday Massacre; “Love In Your Head” by The Black Box Revelation; “Thinking of You” by Pete Yorn; “Tokyo” by Telekinesis; “Too Close” by Mike Sheridan and Mads Langer and “Yet” by Switchfoot.

CASTING SCOOP
Serinda Swan will return as sexy spellcaster Zatanna in Smallville in early 2010.
Malese Jow (Unfabulous and Hannah Montana) will appear as a potential love interest for Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) on The Vampire Diaries.
RUMOR PATROL
J.J. Abrams (Star Trek and Lost) is in talks to produce Micronauts, a film version of the Japanese Microman toy line, which was first released in 1974 and later in 1976 in the US under the Micronauts name. They were a mix of 3.75-inch tall action figures, vehicles, robots, play sets, and accessories.
Ashley Greene (the Twilight franchise) is in talks to star in the horror film The Apparition, which is about a couple who unleash a supernatural force during a college experiment. This movie is “inspired by true events.”
A live-action/computer-animated movie based on the Yogi Bear cartoons is in the planning stages and it looks like Justin Timberlake would voice Boo-Boo, Anna Faris ould appear on screen as a documentary filmmaker working in Jellystone Park and Dan Aykroyd would provide the voice for the smarter-than-average Yogi Bear.
