Thanks, everyone, for the support. Like I’ve said before, it’s really appreciated. The truth is, I grow SO frustrated when I hear, read or watch interviews in which the filmmakers — those behind the cameras — aren’t given the opportunity to talk about their craft. I’m really glad that the interview was actually able to accomplish that and present views of Chris Weitz that aren’t normally expressed.

There are a couple of things about this interview that I really enjoyed. The first is a carry-over from the first part of the interview in which RetroEd wondered if Chris’ vision for the movie will get lost (or at least too caught up in) the extensive shirtless marketing campaign. And regardless of what you think of the campaign or whether or not it is true to the story or even how old you are, it was a great question. This is the first interview in which this topic has been addressed.

That then leads me to the second thing I really liked, the fact that the interview with the director was actually about directing. I have read/watched many (if not most) of the interviews with Chris and the cast, but this is the first one that I have come across in which Chris is asked more in-depth about his directing style and the processes involved. He gave some great answers that you wouldn’t hear from anyone else involved in the project (unlike so many of the other interviews which seem almost interchangable because they ask the same questions to all the people). I especially liked his comments about how sometimes he wished he could return to old-school special effects, and the comparison that Ed made to Jurrasic Park.

Stellar interview. Keep up the good work.

Has the media and even Summit itself missed a huge fact? In reading the comments to Chris Weitz’s interview, (which was refreshingly intelligent-thanks retroEd),I was fascinated by the ages of the responders. Probably 80% of them were over 20. I am 50 and would like to believe that there is a tremendous fan base that is far more mature than the “tweens” market that everyone in the media believes this book series is geared towards.

This is really a great interview. Like Ellie said, there are not enough good interviews like this out there either Twilight or New Moon). I’m so tired of interviewers who just ask the stupid questions (ie who in the cast is dating who, what’s hot about vampires, are you team jacob/edward). Geez! Many Twilight fans, like myself, are adult professionals with careers, families, multiple degrees, etc. I’m certainly not a teeny bopper but I’m in love with the Twilight books because they speak to more than just teenagers. In fact, in some ways I think they speak to a bit older audience (I’m 33) because people who have lived some of life, have kids, have been in the real world for a while can really appreciate the beauty, innocence and passion of the Twilight saga’s story and characters–because we’ve already had to grow up, and Twilight takes us back to a simpler time (ie first love, high school, breakups, etc) but with so much at stake. I can’t wait to see this film. Sounds like Weitz is a director well worth fans’ trust. And that’s the only type of person who should be adapting these beloved books into movies. I am particularly happy that he has done New Moon from a more classical film perspective — loved the tidbits he gave about color palette, longer shots, no hand held cam, etc. New Moon is a very serious book in the series, perhaps the most serious because of the heartbreak. So, it’s nice to finally hear an interview wherein Weitz gets to share more depth about his vision for the film. THANK YOU! I think this interview is a Cullen-style home run.

Great follow up interview! I’m really interested to see the different director’s vision for this Saga, so I think it’s a good idea that each movie is going to have a new director (But honestly, from early clips I’m kind of rooting for Chris to take the reins for Breaking Dawn)! I liked Chris’ take on Robert and the fact that he (Rob) wants to transition the leading man role to Taylor. I think he’s trying a lot of tactics to deflect some of the insane media attention. All the Twilight fans KNOW that Edward is the leading man, even if he’s not a big part of New Moon, his role in the story is paramount to everything else that takes place. Thanks again for this interview. I love Chris Wietz’s thoughtfulness and good humor. And now I can place the blame squarely elsewhere for “The Golden Compass” being such a ho-hum movie. Apparently it was out of his hands and not his vision!
