DreamWorks CG TV Specials
DreamWorks Animation and NBC are collaborating on a pair of holiday CG specials spun off from the studio’s feature film division. First up is Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutan Pumpkin From Outer Space, obviously spawned from this past summer’s blockbuster animated feature, Monsters vs. Aliens. The other is Merry Madagascar, which will presumably be a Christmas-themed special featuring the cast of characters from the Madagascar CG features.
SyFy Launches Caprica Marketing Campaign
SyFy is launching the first phase of its innovative national marketing campaign behind the January 22, 2010 premiere of Caprica, with screenings at the prestigious San Diego, Woodstock and Austin Film Festivals.
Humanity’s storyline takes completely new twists with Caprica, which follows two rival families and their patriarchs — Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morale) — as they compete and thrive in the vibrant realm of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizable as close to our own. This standalone series will feature the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in an omnipotent society that is at the height of ts blind power and glory… and unknowingly on the bring of its fall.
Said Blake Callaway, VP Brand Marketing, SyFy, “As heir to the rich legacy of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica is more than a new television series. With its pedigree of talent, cinematic look, feel and design along with the intelligence of the program’s vision and provocative storylines, Caprica is a natural fit for a film festival. Reflecting the unique way we’re planning on marketing the series, San Diego, Woodstock and Austin Film Festivals are great platforms to kick off the Caprica marketing campaign.”
Caprica will screen at the San Diego Film Festival on Saturday, September 26th, at Woodstock Film Festival on Friday, October 2nd and Sunday October 4th; and the Austin Film Festival on October 24th (with producer/director Jeffrey Reiner and star Esai Morales in attendance).
“The Phantom”: New SyFy Trailer
In 2010, SyFy will be presenting a reimagined version of the classic superhero The Phantom. The adventure will be presented as a four-hour miniseries, which will undoubtedly also serve as a backdoor pilot for a regular series. In the following trailer, it’s obvious that they’re going for a harder-edged approach than we’ve seen with the character before.
Genre Ratings: Monday, September 28, 2009
Two genre offerings. At 8PM, NBC’s Heroes drew 5.8 million viewers, which, unfortunately, was an 11% decrease from the season premiere a week earlier. The show came in fourth in its timeslot. Over on CBS at 9:30, The Big Bang Theory continues to prove itself to be something of a mini-ratings juggernaut, reaching 13 million people, and rising 9% from its season premiere. It came in second in its timeslot.

Primeval, the British series about a group of scientists battling prehistoric creatures who travel through time to the present via a rip in the space time continuum, was abruptly canceled back in June despite healthy ratings. The reason was that ITV simply couldn’t afford to produce any additional episodes of the show, but now, according to The Guardian, a deal has been made with BBC Worldwide, BBC America and Germany’s Pro 7 to produce 13 additional episodes, which will represent seasons (or as they’re called in Britain, “series”) four and five. Airing is expected to begin in 2011.

The Greatest American… Mom?
According to Variety, ABC and producer/director Barry Sonnenfeld are working on a half-hour multi-camera comedy that sounds a lot like a modern updating of Stephen J. Cannell’s ’80s series The Greatest American Hero. Says the trade of the untitled project, “it revolves around a harried mother who finds a special suit that gives her super powers.” The pilot is being written by George Lopez Show writer Laura House.
